I was watching Inside Edition, and they talked about an issue people have been having with Crocs and escalators. They had incidents where children’s feet have been caught onto the edge of the escalator step, sucking in the Croc and heavily injuring the wearers foot. The parents got serious to the point where they tried to sue Crocs themselves, telling them that they cause it by design flaws. Ofcourse they probably didn’t win because they stated that the problem is most likely caused by misuse, which it was. I think this is really dumb on many points.
Read the warnings- Every escalator I’ve used had a warning that said something along the lines of ‘do not use without footwear or flipflops/slippers/rubber footwear.’ It seems as if a lot of peop
le do ignore this, because a good amount of people still do it till this day. Maybe its because they didn’t experience anything bad so they will continue to do it. I personally never wore slippers on an escalator, and will continue not to. I’ve noticed the sign since I first used an escalator when I was young, and it shouldn’t be too hard to notice since its pretty visible. The cause of the happenings was that the Croc would get pulled in when the foot was on the outer most side of the escalator step. I don’t know who would be this outside of the step, but for whatever reason, they did pay the price.
Look for this or similar signs near escalators
Pay Attention to your child- The people that claimed that Crocs were the fault said that their children were calm and under control. Either they’re lying or they weren’t paying attention. If they are trying to hold on to the rail, just hold their hand and thats that. The children that were injured seemed around 3-5 years old, so maybe this could be a hint for you. There’s not a lot to it, just make sure you watch them regardless, awareness is key.

The signs are your friend
Know the Crocs purpose- The first Crocs (beach Croc) were designed to be outdoor and beach going footwear, and it seems the average person uses these Crocs. Although the
y do all look the same, remember what the Croc was made for, to be an outdoor footwear. I looked at their site and they have a wide variety of different releases, but still you should think of what it was originally made for.
Its not even footwear, its a movement.
You probably don’t really need me to tell you about this, but seriously be aware. This can affect anyones life at anytime so its better to be safe than sorry. I know this is old news, but for those that aren’t very well informed, then good thing you got let to this.
