how-to avoid a teacher’s question

Posted by Jaret on July 3, 2008

I’m sure a lot of people had that time where the teacher asks a ridiculously hard to answer question (to your standards) and you hope that you don’t get picked. Then the inevitable happens and you hear “(your name) whats the answer.” uhhh, I have no idea is what you would probably say, or I don’t know, or if you wanna look really dumb stare and say nothing.

Don’t make direct eye contact- I can’t stress how important it is to NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE TEACHER. This increases your odds of being picked because they notice your attentive or something. On thing to do is, well not look at them. If you don’t look at them, they seem to scan the room for another person. What you shouldn’t do when you don’t look at them is to obviously trying to not look at them. If you just stare into space or look at the walls/out the door, they will call on you because you don’t look like your paying attention, then follow up with humiliation.

Take notes or do corrections- Some other things I’ve experienced was to look like your taking notes. If you do this, they probably think you are listening, which is their ultimate goal. If your doing a little correcting papers thing then look like your correcting the other persons paper. What you shouldn’t do is to be writing anything prior to the question being asked, then this will be impossible to pull off. They know your doing something way off from whats going on. Kind of pause, then write, then pause. If the teacher scans the room and their looking at you, commence the trickery, but of course don’t look directly at them. Your peripheral vision should be good enough if you don’t have tunnel vision.

Look busy- There’s something else you can do, but I’ve been called anyway for doing it sometimes. When the teacher is about to turn your way, act like your going into your bag or your gonna get something on the floor. Since you won’t exactly be in their vision, they won’t call you. They might call you because it looks like your trying to hide, so don’t do it too fast or else.

These don’t work all the time, but it does work. I’ve tried them, and I’ve watched other people get caught by these, so I sort of know what I’m talking about. I know this is a pretty ridiculous how to, but some people could find it useful somewhat.
DISCLAIMER- IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THESE TECHNIQUES ABSOLUTELY DON’T WORK FOR YOU, USE THEM AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION.
